Manitoba Advanced Endoscopy

Education and Research Objectives

The Manitoba Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy group also plays an important role in education and training of Medical students along with Residents and fellows from Internal Medicine, General Surgery, and Gastroenterology at the University of Manitoba and from external Universities in Canada and abroad. The group also attends on the GI Bleed and Inpatient Gastroenterology Service.

Our current research program focuses on outcomes related to advanced endoscopy procedures.  Our current active and developing studies include:

  • SHARP study (Sphincterotomy for acute recurrent pancreatitis)- a multicenter international trial looking at performing sphincterotomy for patients with recurrent pancreatitis of unknown cause.
  • Examining the long-term outcomes of patients who have undergone ERCP in the province since 1984
  • Outcomes associated with the use of Artificial Intelligence devices to improve detection in endoscopy
  • Development of a database for patients undergoing third space endoscopy procedures in Manitoba and their long term outcomes
  • Examining the long term physical and mental health outcomes in patients with acute pancreatitis
